The fondation of the Association of Friends of Gaston Bachelard in 1984 coincided with the celebration of the centenary of the birth of the philosopher in Bar-sur-Aube . Dr. Daniel Giroux, friend and pupil of the philosopher, has chaired since its foundation until 1996. Faithful to his champenoises roots, the Association has kept its headquarters in Bar-sur-Aube. It further developed, since 1997, an active Dijon pole that works closely with Bachelard Centre of the University of Burgundy.
Following the general meeting on 19 January 2013, due to the internationalization of its members and its constant commitment to research around the thought and work of Gaston Bachelard, whether by its publications (Bulletin and Newsletter) or through its support for academic meetings, the association is now called International Association Gaston Bachelard, without affecting the organization, the nature and mission of the association.
